Weather can change suddenly when you live in Mapleton, for example, it’s Easter and outside the rain is teeming with a thick mist that spreads across the horizon. Dreamy, magical and mysterious. Curl up under a rug with a book sort of day. The wind picks up and sways the branches of the trees. Sky is grey. And I am cocooned inside where it is safe and warmer.
Yesterday, however, with grand children in tow, we took our chances and drove to Coolum Beach with high spirits. The skate park is an attraction for energetic kids as well as a bag of food and treats. Once on the beach, the gusts of wind picked up and BANG! down came the rain and beach goers left. Not my adult son and 4 children. Off they ran full speed to the rocks to climb and explore. I followed carrying the gear, wind swept, eyes stinging and glasses fogging up.
There is beauty all around in the seascape. Beauty and strength in the rock formations. Power in the climb. Patterns and curves in the art. A place to sit and ponder. Listen. Be thankful. Immerse yourself with the thunderous ocean and splashing surf.
I am always reminded of the majesty of the vast ocean, the surrender to its power and awe. Slippery rocks, sea creatures and blue bottles, the smell of salt in the air. Only a week ago, the sky was filled with sunshine and rich blue at Point Cartwright where I stood and glimpsed a beautiful vista.
Take a drive there and you will experience the wonders, rocks and perfection of nature.
Back home at Lily ponds, there are walks to enjoy, beauty to behold.
Here’s a reminder of poet John Keats, Ode to Autumn.
“Seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
with fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run..”
Enjoy nature and as Andy Warhol says, “Land really is the best art.”
“Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
